Clear Lake Schools

The importance Clear Lake has placed on education is a theme which runs from 1855 through today. This small town has consistently built quality school buildings, each more modern and better equipped than the last, always with an eye to providing a comfortable, safe (except for the occasional conflagration) environment for learning. The School District and School Board Members have maintained a strong financial base and avoided consolidation that have closed small town schools across the state.

If you attended school in Clear Lake, you were given the opportunity to receive a solid education with a full range of choices in art, science, social studies, mathematics, languages, industrial arts, sports, music and more. That’s 170 years and counting!

The History of Clear Lake Schools

As early as 1855, Joseph Hewitt, one of the first settlers, had a school in his log cabin on the south shore, run by a female teacher who was paid $1 per student plus room and board.

The History Room and Historical Society have a comprehensive collection of Clear Lake High School Year Books from 1919 through 2024. Some volumes are available to check out so you can prepare for the upcoming high school reunion.

High School Reunions

Even though your high school classmates left town after graduation, the bonds that were formed during the school years are strong. Class reunions are a chance to reconnect and share stories. From 2011 to 2016, a group organized “All Class” reunions held at the Surf. Classes celebrating five and ten year graduation milestones were honored. Each booklet highlighted Clear Lake’s history along with photos of class groups.

Clear Lake Sports

Sports teams are the pride of the community and an integral part of school years. Clear Lake HS sports teams compete at the local conference level, district and state levels. Here’s the story of how we became the Clear Lake Lions. In addition, here’s a list of record holders for various athletic activities, reference books about Clear Lake’s football programs and other sport related documents in our collection.
