An Introduction to the Clear Lake Iowa History Website
The mission of the Clear Lake Historical Society and the Clear Lake Public Library History Room is to collect, preserve, interpret, and present the history of Clear Lake, Iowa—helping today’s community learn about, connect, and be inspired by its past.
Our collections consist of donations of family archives, photographs, recorded memories, artifacts, maps, newspapers, directories, records of local organizations and governments, and articles and essays developed from research into the collection.
This website is part of a long-term program to make our holdings and research more available to the community of those interested or curious about Clear Lake and our history. The website contains indexes of large collections such as over 2000 obituaries and a gallery of photos displaying the visual history of Clear Lake. A detailed catalog of the combined collections will be added and updated as new donations are received.
Explore the site; follow the Historical Timeline for an overview of important events though our history, peruse the stories of snippets of history in People, Places and Events section. In the Clear Lake Stories section, you can find essays on Clear Lake institutions, personal stories of Clear Lake and collections of stories by Clear Lake authors.
The Research and Archives section contains links to digital images from our collection and links to outside resources to assist with your research. The Photo Gallery contains a wide array of the image collection displaying all aspects of Clear Lake from the 1860s through to today.
The About Us and Support sections highlight the Historical Society and the History Room activities with links to connect to us and support our programs.
