Our Mission

The mission of the Clear Lake Historical Society is to provide stewardship of Clear Lake, Iowa’s historical culture through preservation, engagement, and public education.

We strive to protect the stories, places, and artifacts that shape our shared identity, ensuring they remain accessible and relevant for generations to come. Through exhibitions, programs, partnerships, and educational initiatives, we inspire curiosity, foster a sense of belonging, and encourage the community to actively participate in preserving our collective heritage.

The Clear Lake Historical society is a source of historical documents, photgraphs and artifacts related to Clear Lake’s history. CLHS works in partnership with the local community, its residents, businesses, libraries and schools, other non-profits, and local and state historical and genealogical societies and museums.

The Society is a non-profit 501C3 organization established in 1973, with a  Governing Board.

Become a Member or Renew Your Membership

Membership in the Clear Lake Historical Society lasts for a calendar year, that is January through December.  We hope that you will renew your membership if you have not yet done so, or become a new member of the Clear Lake Historical Society, which is a non-profit organization.   Levels of membership are listed below and your check made payable to the Clear Lake Historical Society, can be mailed to our address below.  Download the membership form below by clicking on the 3 dots (…) and select download. Send the form to the address on the form.  

We operate based on the devoted work of volunteers, fees collected through memberships and generous donations.  We often also apply for grants to accomplish specific large projects, but membership fees cover our day-to-day costs.  No one in our organization receives a paycheck. Membership dollars are crucial for us maintain and update exhibits and programs.

We value our members greatly and thank those of you who have already become members of the Clear Lake Historical Society and have joined our group of dedicated volunteers of all ages who are passionate about learning, preserving and sharing Clear Lake history.  Jump in, the water is fine!
